In order to search files in one or more servers or NAS storage devices, press the 'Network' button located on the main toolbar and wait while VX Search will scan the network and show a list of detected network servers and NAS storage devices. The accuracy of hydraulic models has dramatically increased in recent years as innovations in hydraulic modeling solutions have put more and more power into our hands. However, as is often the case, with increased modeling accuracy comes slower simulation times because of the heavier computations that need to be performed. InfoWorks ICM 2026 brings new workflows for speeding up hydraulic modeling through mesh simplification. Subgrid Sampling is a feature that allows you to optionally use larger mesh elements in your model while still capturing highly accurate and detailed topographical changes in your surface. We've developed this using depth-volume variations within larger mesh elements to maintain the accuracy of a finer mesh. If you don't need a finer mesh, you can speed up your hydraulic simulations by reducing complexity.
What's new in InfraWorks ICM 2026.3
This topic lists all the additions and improvements incorporated in InfoWorks ICM 2026.3 which were not available in previous versions.
Subgrid Meshing Improvements
This release expands the range of elements supported by the Subgrid Sampling meshing, improving precision and consistency in 2D modelling. The following 2D element types can now be used with Subgrid Sampling:
- Porous Walls
- Porous Polygons
- Base Linear Structures
- Sluice Linear Structures
- Bridge Linear Structures
- Infiltration Zones
- Infiltration Surfaces
- Permeable Zones
Subgrid can now support ground elevation resampling which was not enabled in the early releases.
Rasterizer Enhancements (Export 2D to Raster)
The rasterizer capabilities have been expanded and stabilised in this release:
- Export 2D to Raster is no longer a Tech Preview.
- Now fully supported for non-cloud (Workgroup and Standalone) databases.
- Added coordinate reference system handling for correct spatial alignment.
- Performance improvements for large datasets.
- Removal of the 2 GB output size limit.
Improved Model Group Icons in Cloud Databases
Cloud databases now update Model Group icons based on the contents of the folder - matching the behaviour that already existed in workgroup and standalone databases. When a Model Group contains only one type of object (e.g. rainfall files, layer lists), its icon automatically changes to reflect that object type. This creates a more consistent experience across all database types and improves navigation clarity in cloud-based projects.

Improved handling of inflow and level boundaries at Connect 2D nodes *
Connect 2D Nodes now support inflow (qin) and water level (lev) boundary conditions. These boundaries are applied consistently with 1D node behavior when used with compatible connection types. Inflows are supported for Closed and Lost connection types, while level boundaries apply to Lost connection types, with level taking precedence when both profiles are supplied. Warnings are provided in cases where a boundary is not applicable to the selected connection type. This enhancement delivers more predictable boundary interactions within 2D-1D connectivity and offers greater modelling flexibility.
Enhanced Encoding Support in ODIC Imports
A new "Assume UTF-8 encoding" option has been added to the ODIC file import workflow. This restores flexibility that had been removed in earlier versions and improves compatibility with international datasets.
- When the option is checked, imported files are treated as UTF-8 encoded.
- When unchecked, encoding defaults to the system locale.
Prior to 2024.4, ICM automatically assumed the system locale encoding. In 2024.4, UTF-8 was enforced for all imports. The 2026.3 release now supports both behaviours, selectable via a simple checkbox.
*This change takes effect only for databases upgraded to the 2026.3 format or newer.

This topic lists any bugs that have been fixed between versions 2026.2 and 2026.3 of InfoWorks ICM. The fixes listed below are those that are viewed as likely to impact on users in an unexpected way, mainly changed simulation results, or differences in behaviour that might not be obvious.
Infiltration Depth Handling Update for 2D Models
The depth noise filter introduced in the 2025.2 release to handle numerical noise introduced by depths below floating point precision has been removed due to potential volume balance issues on simulations containing infiltration and very low rainfall events running on GPU cards. A new methodology based on an infiltration depth tolerance has been introduced instead to handle infiltration at very low depths. Infiltration will only be calculated at depths above the infiltration tolerance depth for the following infiltration models: Horton, Green-Ampt, Deficit and Constant Loss, CNSWMM. The infiltration tolerance depth is currently set as floating point single precision, i.e. approx 10^-7 m. This change may have some minor impact on 2D models dealing with very low depths - mainly Infiltration Models with Infiltration Surfaces of the type Horton, Green-Ampt, Deficit and Constant Loss, CNSWMM (i.e. models with heave wetting and drying). The affected results are likely to be mainly summary attributes regarding velocities and angles, derived results such as Froude number, and infiltration results related to soil properties, such as Green-Ampt moisture content of the upper zone.
Note: This change takes effect only for databases upgraded to the 2026.3 format or newer.
Small depths at 2D structures
Generic orifices at 2D structures were sometimes producing flows for tiny water depths. This has been corrected by introducing a threshold head of 1mm before flow is generated. This change affects the flow calculations for 2D base linear structures of type weir with weir type thin plate, and sluices and bridges (2D) with flow type set to controlled or orifice, or overtopping type controlled.
Note: This change takes effect only for databases upgraded to the 2026.3 format or newer.
Lateral friction shear stress depth calculation in 2D linear structures
The shear stress depth used to calculate the lateral friction in 2D linear structures is now calculated correctly when running simulations on a GPU for weirs, user control, sluices and bridges. This situation occurred when the depth on the adjacent 2D element was above the structure itself.
Inflow and level boundaries now applied to Connect 2D nodes
Boundary profiles attached to Connect 2D nodes were previously not taken into consideration. The engine has been updated so that inflow (qin) and level (lev) profiles behave consistently with other 1D nodes when applied to Connect 2D nodes of appropriate connection types. Inflow is now applied when the connection type is Closed or Lost. Level is applied when the connection type is Lost (and overrides inflow if both are present, with warning 248). When an inflow/level profile is assigned to any other connection type, a warning is issued and the boundary is ignored.
Note: This change takes effect only for databases upgraded to the 2026.3 format or newer.
Null pointer error in pre-processing
A null pointer error arising when pre-processing a simulation has been fixed.
Converting pumps from InfoWorks to SWMM networks
When converting from an InfoWorks network to a SWMM network, the initial pump status is set to "ON" instead of "YES".
Splitting river reaches
An intermittent crash when splitting a river reach by inserting a node has been fixed.
Auto-name option in Open Data Import Center
An Invalid Pointer error when using the auto-name option for generated nodes has been fixed.
CSV export
Some field descriptions containing a comma were causing columns to be misaligned in exported CSV files. This has been rectified.
Updating cross-section from ground model
An issue when updating from aground model on a cross-section view has been resolved.
Importing rainfall events from generic CSV file
Some improvements have been made to the import of rainfall events from generic CSV files.
Export of SWMM rainfall profiles
The export of SWMM rainfall profiles to CSV is no longer missing the profile field.
SWMM long section Description labels
Long section Descriptions for SWMM networks should now be labelled correctly.
HGL for SWMM networks
The HGL is now shown correctly on long sections for drop manholes with maximum results in SWMM networks.
Running scripts from the database
When a script object is run, a transaction was being created for the entire script, meaning that any scripts that themselves created a transaction would fail with an error "a transaction is already active". The outer transaction is no longer created, which fixes this problem. However, this means that an entire script can no longer be undone in one click unless it contains only one transaction.
Undefined ground levels
Mesh generation now reports an error if there are any parts of the mesh that have ground levels undefined in the ground model. Previously, mesh generation and simulation would succeed but with inaccurate results in some circumstances.
Symbology for TAB files
Embedded symbols in TAB files were not always being displayed correctly. This has been fixed.
Tiff files in ArcGIS
Tiff can no longer be selected as an image format when using the ArcGIS map control, as it is not supported by the Esri ArcGIS component.
Creating a TIN ground model from a shapefile
A regression introduced in version 2026.1 caused a crash when importing a TIN ground model from a shapefile. This has been fixed.
Buildings
Buildings with holes and exceedance flow were triggering "partially flowing outside" warnings from the engine, with the length of the flow onto the 2D mesh being calculated incorrectly. This has been fixed.
Custom graphs in cloud databases
In a cloud database, when opening custom graphs that use sims with no local results downloaded, an "access is denied" error was appearing and the software was crashing. This has been fixed.
Runoff in SWMM simulation results
The units of pervious and impervious runoff for SWMM results are now specified correctly as flow units.
RiskMaster licensing
An error in RiskMaster licensing on startup of Innovyze-branded versions of InfoWorks ICM has been corrected.
Custom graphs
Object per page and simulation per page custom graphs can now use SWMM results.
Re-runs of SWMM networks
When "allow re-runs" is selected on a SWMM run, this is now respected when the network version is changed.
Converting head loss links from InfoWorks to SWMM
When converting a head loss link from InfoWorks to an outlet in SWMM, the rating curve is now set to Tabular/Head instead of the non-existent TABULAR.
Converting subcatchments from InfoWorks to SWMM
When importing subcatchments from an InfoWorks network into a SWMM network, a rain gage is created corresponding to each rainfall profile.
White space in SWMM output report files
The amount of white space in some SWMM output report files has been reduced.

SWMM object IDs with spaces

When using the MapXtreme map control, after a WMS layer has been added the ARR and NOAA storm generators were no longer displaying a map. This has been fixed.
RTC
A problem with RTC being deactivated in simulations using an Initial conditions 1D object containing links that are not in the network has been solved.
Level boundary (2D)
In the absence of a profile associated with a level boundary (2D), a level of zero was being imposed, causing unwanted error messages in the log and potentially incorrect behaviour. This has been fixed.
SWMM storage nodes
Water depth and head results are now shown for storage nodes in SWMM simulations.
Converting SWMM to InfoWorks
When converting a SWMM network to an InfoWorks network, hydrology is now converted correctly for SCS_curvilinear.
Inflow patterns in SWMM simulations
In SWMM simulations, when an inflow pattern reference exists on a node, but the inflow pattern does not exist in the time patterns object, a multiplier of 0 was being applied. A multiply of 1 is now used instead.
Simulations with many subcatchments
Simulations were crashing when running with many subcatchments (somewhere above 529296 for cloud databases, 264648 for workgroup and standalone databases), This has been fixed.
Buildings
A regression introduced in 2025.3 meant that incorrect highest depths were being shown for building results. This has been rectified.
Connect 2D links and outfalls
An outfall connected to a Connect 2D link could sometimes cause spurious flood depths to be reported at nodes. This has been corrected.
ARR storm generator on Windows 11
The ARR storm generator can now show reports on Windows 11.
XPX import of levels
Invert levels are now imported correctly into ICM from xpx file. The storage array's bottom value is taken from the chamber floor.
XPSWMM import
Built-in shapes and headlosses are no longer removed when importing to a model group from XPSWMM.
TSD updates in ICMLive
TSD updates triggered by ICMLive servers no longer require an ICMLive licence to be available on the machine running the update.
Rain gage results in SWMM simulations
Rainfall is now Descriptionted for rain gages in SWMM simulation results.
River reach flood theme
A problem with the flood theme not being shown for some river reaches has been fixed.

Some problems with exporting SWMM networks and sims with baseline inflows or DWF have been solved.
Duplicate runoff surfaces when converting from SWMM to InfoWorks
Some further reductions have been made in the creation of duplicate runoff surfaces when importing a SWMM network into an InfoWorks network.
Converting flap gates from SWMM to InfoWorks
When converting from a SWMM network to an InfoWorks network, the dummy node at the downstream end of a flap gate is now added as an outfall.
Return period export from Exchange
