Forty years later, a complete revival. The legendary analog synthesizer that transformed its age.
The ARP Odyssey was an analog synthesizer originally produced in 1972 by the American manufacturer ARP Instruments, Inc. that quickly garnered a faithful following among musicians. Well respected for its high value, ease to play and portability, the ARP Odyssey had undergone several improvements during its history and continued to be a long-seller until manufacturing stopped in 1981 due to economic hardships and the digital surge. Loved by a wide range of musicians as a historical classic, its sound can be heard on numerous classic songs.

Now in 2015, KORG has brought back the ARP Odyssey for today. With the advisory assistance of David Friend, the co-founder of ARP Instruments, KORG has completely reproduced the original circuitry for artists looking to recreate classic sounds and explore new ones. Together the engineers at KORG and Arp were able to nail the sound and feel of the original. Every detail has been carefully considered to stay true to the quality of the original, down to the sophisticated semi-hard case.
The legendary ARP sound is loved to this day. Long stopped, the wheels of history have again begun to move.
The distinctive synthesis of the ARP Odyssey has been reproduced from the circuit level up
The original ARP Odyssey was a 2VCO duo-phonic instrument. Its most distinctive feature was its sharp, penetrating sound and its rich range of tonal variation. With a variety of functions and modulation possibilities provided by oscillator sync, sample & hold, pulse width modulation, high-pass filter, two types of envelope generator, and pitch bend using the PPC, it was able to create a versatile range of sounds.
The ARP Odyssey reproduces the sounds of these components at the circuit level. Under the supervision of David Friend, parts were carefully selected and every detail was adjusted to replicate the original unit's distinctive synthesis.
Filters of all three generations are provided
Broadly speaking, there were three versions of the original ARP Odyssey, divided by the date of production, with the major difference being the filter circuit. The ARP Odyssey provides all three of these different filter circuits, and allows you to select one of them with a single switch.
TYPE I (Rev1) is a 12 dB/Oct circuit that produces a sharp, punchy sound. TYPE II (Rev2) is a 24 dB/Oct filter with great-sounding lows. TYPE III (Rev3) maintains excellent stability even when resonance is raised. These distinctive filters have been reproduced just as they originally were.

The first workstation synthesizer, released in 1988, which defined the sound of the late '80s and early '90s: M1.

Along with its innovative "workstation" concept, the M1's "AI" (Advanced Integrated) synthesis system used PCM waveforms and digital effects to deliver fully complete program and combination sounds. As a pioneer of PCM tone generation, it was notable not just for the reality of its sound, but also for the distinctive resonance and tonal character that demonstrated the high level of Korg's voicing technology. Numerous sounds available only from the M1, most notable the famous "M1 Piano" sound, were taken up by musicians and producers around the world, and are still in use today.
The software features filter resonance, VDA modulation, and master effects that have been powered up to a total of 18 systems. It provides all of the PCM, Program, and Combination data found in the original M1 and the M1EX internal PCM expansion, plus the PCM data and Program/Combination data from all nineteen optional ROM cards.What's more, in addition to all 19 types of the PCM ROM cards for the M1, the sound of the M1EX which was released as an expansion of the M1's built-in PCM, as well as the sounds of the T-series, which advanced the M1. It is equipped with extensive sounds, including 33,000 preset sounds and 34 cards.

At the beginning of the 1970s, many compact monophonic synthesizers appeared on the market. However, most of them were used mainly by famous musicians who could afford rare instruments or as research devices in the academic world. KORG wanted to give the average musician the chance to experience this new type of musical instrument. After much trial and error, the company's first mass-produced synthesizer was announced in 1973: the miniKORG 700. With a simple appearance that belied its ability to produce diverse sounds beyond imagination, it charmed many musicians who loved its unique and thick tonal quality.

The miniKORG 700S, the improved version with an additional VCO, was announced the next year, and has now been recreated as a software instrument.
The miniKORG 700S for Mac and Windows is a faithful reproduction of the original analog hardware, with powerful new features only possible in software.
Now the unique sounds and capabilities of this historic KORG synthesizer can be enjoyed on your computer.
A Faithful Recreation of Unique Circuitry
The original miniKORG 700S was a 2VCO, 2VCF, 1EG, 1LFO monophonic synthesizer. Because synthesizers were not as common as they are today, its circuitry was unique. For example, when developing the triangle wave oscillator, the engineers aimed to create a circuit that produced a beautifully musical sound rather than a scientifically accurate one.
In addition to the oscillator circuit, the low and high pass filters were combined into a single, unique part called the Traveler Controller, which was a distinctive feature of KORG's early synthesizers.
Instead of a more traditional ADSR style envelope, the miniKORG700s allows the user to control the shape of the sound with two sliders; one that controls attack time and decay time, and one that controls sustain level and release time. These quirks and more have all been faithfully reproduced in the software version.

The Mono/Poly is Korg's four-VCO monophonic/polyphonic synthesizer that went on sale in 1981 and was considered the culmination of Korg's experience building analog synthesizers. It was released at the same time as the Polysix, and because of their capabilities as well as their price, these two instruments caused a revolution in the synthesizer world. Many musicians acclaimed the Mono/Poly as Korg's best synthesizer yet, with a number of unique characteristics.

It provided four VCOs, each providing adjustable pitch, waveform, octave, and level, which could be stacked together for massive sounds, or cycled through one at a time for constantly shifting timbres. Together with one VCF, one VCA, two EGs, and two MGs it provided a powerful yet accessible programming structure.

The analog monophonic synthesizer with the potential for patching that went on sale in 1978: the MS-20. The entirety of the MS-20 is reproduced with its two oscillators (which can be ring-modulated), high-pass/low-pass self-oscillating filters with unique distortion, and a patch section with an external signal processor that can accommodate external audio input.

The Polysix programmable six-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer was introduced in 1981. With a surprisingly full-sounding voice structure, chorus/phase/ensemble effects and performance functions such as chord memory, arpeggiator, and unison the Polysix became a world-wide hit. Equipped with Oscillator Models from the MOSS Synthesis Engine
Prophecy for Mac/Win uses software to fully reproduce the original Prophecy's MOSS (Multi-Oscillator Synthesis System) and is equipped with five of the seven total oscillator types.
Standard Oscillator for Analog Synth Sounds
This is a simulation of analog synth oscillators and is also equipped with Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), expanding the timbral capabilities beyond what is normally possible in analog.
Noise + Comb Filtering
This oscillator extracts tone components from white noise. Contrary to what some might think, this algorithm is capable of more than just noisy sounds. It offers a wide range of possibilities, from synthy basses to strings.
VPM (Variable Phase Modulation)
VPM creates rich harmonics by modulating the phase of a signal. The carrier's phase is changed by the modulator, and the resulting signal is processed by the wave shaper, resulting in sounds with high frequency content.
Cross / Ring / Modulation and Sync
This oscillator is designed to replicate analog oscillators modulating one another. As a result, it can produce chiming, metallic sounds with rich harmonics like bells.
